The Indian Institute of Gems and Jewellery (IIGJ) Mumbai marked two decades of excellence in gems and jewellery education at a grand celebration held at the Innov8 Launch Pad during IIJS Signature 2024. The event hosted a select group of industry luminaries, distinguished guests, and key figures who who graced the occasion to mark this significant milestone.
Dignitaries from the Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC India) adorned the event, with Chief Guest Mr. Vipul Shah, Chairman; Guest of Honour Mr. Kirit Bhansali, Vice Chairman; and Mr. Sabyasachi Ray, Executive Director, joining other important GJEPC officials in celebrating this remarkable milestone. Mr. Milan Chokshi, Chairman of IIGJ Mumbai, and Mr. Raj Parikh, Director of IIGJ Mumbai, were also present, adding their significant influence to the celebration.
The festivities commenced with a graceful dance performance by the talented students pursuing the Post-Graduate Diploma in Jewellery Management at IIGJ Mumbai. The highlight of the evening was, most surely, a captivating fashion show by students, featuring exquisite jewellery pieces designed by graduating students, showcasing their creativity and skill.
During the event, IIGJ Mumbai announced long-term collaborations with prominent institutions, including Tolani College of Commerce, DCB Bank, and DeBeers Forevermark. These partnerships aim to enhance educational opportunities and foster growth within the gem and jewellery industry. A short video capturing photos from the past and highlighting the contributions by all the founding members and donors of the Institute took those present at the occasion on a charming visit down memory lane.
Faculty and staff who have served the Institution for 10 and 20 years were felicitated and awarded, as were IIGJ Champs, student toppers who are now involved with the gems and jewellery industry, full-time.
A moment of remembrance and tribute was dedicated to the founder chairman, Mr. Tanvir Chokshi, with a memento presented to his son, Mr. Milan Chokshi, the current Chairman of IIGJ Mumbai. The evening concluded with the felicitation of the Chief Guest, Guest of Honour, and other special guests, underscoring their valuable contributions to the success of IIGJ Mumbai.
More than 100 distinguished guests, including industry leaders, attended the event. Chairman of GJEPC, Vice Chairman of GJEPC and Executive Director of GJEPC, along with founder member, Mr. Sanjay Kothari and Mr. Milan Chokshi, delivered congratulatory remarks, commending the institute’s quiet yet impactful achievements over the past two decades and interspersed their speeches with memorable anecdotes that resonated with all present.
The event was expertly conducted by Mr. Debasish Biswas, CEO of IIGJ and officiating Head of the Institute for IIGJ Mumbai, who ensured that the celebration was a fitting tribute to the institute’s journey and accomplishments.
As IIGJ Mumbai looks back on 20 years of excellence, the institute remains steadfast in its commitment to shaping the future of the gems and jewellery industry through education, innovation, and collaboration.
